If you could dream the perfect life, what would it be?
When you walk the Path of the Hero, one of the most important things you can think about is what it is you are here to do.
Ultimately, you decide on that. Only you will know what it is you are here to do.
But there are several techniques and exercises that help you uncover your Life’s Work.
One of my favorite is the “Magic Wand.” It involves writing a paragraph about your perfect life.
Take a few moments and write a paragraph about what your life would look like if you had a magic wand. Pretend that with this magic wand, you could design the perfect life for yourself.
What would it look like? What would you be doing? What would your day-to-day existence look and feel like?
This is a very fun exercise, and you will discover a lot about yourself by doing it. You might surprise yourself with what you end up writing.
I remember doing this exercise thinking in my head that I knew what my perfect life might look like.
But when I actually wrote down what I wanted my life to look like, it came out a different than I anticipated.
After you’ve written the paragraph, see how it feels to live this perfect life. See if it resonates with a deeper truth inside of you.
Then think about the changes you could make in your life so that you can start on the path to creating this perfect life.
If you wrote that you want to travel a lot, but your job doesn’t let you travel, that’s a good sign that you may need to find a better aligned job at some point in the future.
If your vision includes living in a specific part of the world, but you’re not there, that’s good feedback for you.
Keep the paragraph handy, and read it again at least once a month. See if you need to change or tweak anything.
Use this paragraph as a compass to help you navigate the wide open seas of an examined and full life.
