Cleaning up Earth before heading for the stars
I would like to believe that one day, perhaps soon, humanity will extend itself into the stars and will engage in peaceful exploration of outer space.
But space exploration does not make any sense in an era when we have so much to clean up here on Earth.
There is a plastic problem, a carbon problem, an extinction problem.
There is the problem of war. There is the problem of a great refugee crisis.
From a certain point of view, not doing anything about these problems, while building rocket ships and space stations, is highly irresponsible.
Don’t get me wrong. I see value in exploring outer space.
I just don’t think we should be doing it just quite yet.
I think we need to clean up our pollution here first.
We need to clean up the plastic.
We need to stabilize the climate.
We need to end the extinction event now in progress.
Let’s do those things, and then we can go to outer space.
Let’s get our priorities straight.
